Tell us about yourself...

Hello Everyone. My Name is Ahmad Owens, I am 17 years old and Senior at St.Augustine High School in NOLA. I strive to be a great student and an even greater baseball player, which is my passion. I've been playing baseball since I was 4 years old when my dad placed a baseball in my hand, and I realized I could throw very hard and fast immediately... like it was my calling...lol.. I live in Harvey, LA, and have played on countless All-Star baseball teams growing up, along with helping my team, LTG Stars, towards winning the 2017 USSSA 10U World Series baseball tournament at age 10 in Panama City, FL, where I was lead Off Batter. It was 1 of the best experiences in my life.. since then, I've become much better, more focused, stronger, faster, and like my dad, wiser, with a long way to go.. follow my journey if you can.. I won't let you all down.!!

How did you find out about the eda?

Dad and I were introduced to this EDA combine via an advertisement and recruited by Coach Derek Del Rosal, who has been working extremely hard contacting potential college coaches where I may fit in perfectly. The program is an excellent gateway for players finding their way through the ever-political sports arena these days. I'm so thankful I was selected and will forever do my very best to represent EDA.

WHAT DOES THE EDA OPPORTUNITY MEAN TO YOU?

This great scholarship really gives me hope that reminds me of all the years of hard workouts, practices, afterhour drills and always wanting a opportunity to show my skillsets and waiting my time. I will take 1000% advantage of this beautiful opportunity and work extremely hard.

Share a little bit about your background...

My background includes growing up in a bad neighborhood, watching my parents work long hours looking for ways to get ahead and keep us as kids busy and our minds occupied with positive things in life. My dad is an Army War veteran whom always teaching me about discipline with respect and how it opens doors. At the age of 6, I was diagnosed with ADHD, finding it hard to focus in class and being attentive, but my parents both decided not to allow that to be a crutch but rather a motivational factor to overcome. I would say I'm managing school very well, and I find my place of solitude on the baseball field, where I strive to outwork and out-perform everyone. It feels good to find something I fit in and can achieve on higher levels.. No one can stop me except myself... looking forward to this journey.!!

tell us one fun fact about yourself...

A fun Fact about me is that I can walk on my hands for a long distances since I was 8 years old.. started out as just something to do and just grew from there...LOL.. I also have a younger sister, Ava, who is 5, and she acts as if she is my boss, telling me what to do a lot...lol

What career would you like to do?

I would love to become a College baseball Coach and Guidance counselor and give back to the youth what I've learned through my growth and successes in sports as well as academics learning how important time management really is.!!
